Maitree, launched in 2014, is our sustainability initiative that brings about the dual benefit of protecting the environment as well as bringing about economic development within communities.
Each year we identify new regions for plantation and collaborate with farmers in the vicinity. This time we worked with 2300 farmers to plant fruit-bearing trees in Jawahar, Mokada and Karjat regions – the tribal belt in Maharashtra, India. These trees will add to the planet’s green cover and also be a source of livelihood to farmers who will nurture them and sell the produce. This will also reduce their need for migration in search of work.
In the true spirit of teaming up for the greater good, we received excellent support and active participation not just from farmers but also from forest officials to make Maitree a grand success. As a result, we made an active contribution to reducing carbon dioxide levels and adding to the biodiversity of the area.
At Allcargo, CSR activities have never been driven by mandatory requirements, but by a heartfelt desire to give back to society and ensure that our strides towards progress are inclusive and sustainable.
With 652,000 trees planted and over 12,000 farmers economically benefiting from them, our Maitree initiative has proved to be an excellent model of community development and environment sustainability. We are well on-track to achieve our aim of planting a million trees by 2021 and hope to continue making a positive impact on as many lives as possible.
